________________
"Recently I have studied maps for inspiration. Maps are flat 2
dimensional representaions of a 3 dimensional sphere. In essence
a landscape painting is much the same. No matter how hard the
artist tries to create space, a painting will ALWAYS be flat.
I choose to not focus on creating illusions of depth but rather
concentrate on the reality of the canvas' flat surface. Addressing
the canvas in this manner enables me to abstract images that exist
nowhere but on the canvas itself. The painting then becomes nature
instead of a representation of nature...in actuality this is realism
in it's purest form."
