XJ INTERIOR BIKE RACK

HOW TO MAKE THE RACK

Get a thule roof rack crossbar, and quick release hub mounts. Put your bike in and mark where the crossbar needs to be so the bike fits. Remove the plastic covers where the side seat latches are, drill holes in the metal that is under those covers on each side of the latches and bolt on the "L" brackets (home depot has them but I made mine from scrap sheet metal). The hardest part of this project is getting the nuts and lock washers back behind the seat latch to bolt down the L bracket... there is not much space there ( I used duct tape on my pinky finger to hold the nut in place behind the metal) . Also...make sure to leave some space between the carpet and the bracket for the head of the bolt that will run up through the crossbar. Then drill holes in the crossbar ends through the top of the L brackets. Run bolts up through the L brackets and crossbar and put a washer and wing nut on the top ( this allows you to remove the unit easily if you have to). You may have to cut the crossbar to length so the seat folds up without it hitting the interior rear wheel well molding. I also drilled holes in the plastic seat latch covers so the bolt heads didn't make it bulge when I put them back on in the end. Email me if you need a drawing of how I did it... artboyee@yahoo.com
